After several children from different families are suspected to have been killed by wolves that roam the area, writer Russell Core (Jeffrey Wright) is hired by the parent of one of the missing children – a six-year-old boy. Russell is tasked with the mission of tracking down her missing son and also to locate the animal responsible, all while navigating the dangerous Alaskan wilderness. An interesting Netflix movie that had the potential to be far better than what eventually transpired.
Set in 1933, notorious bank robber, John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and his fellow gang members are hunted by the FBI after Dillinger’s popularity begins to soar and their dangerous attacks become more frequent. Head of the FBI, Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup), is determined to stop the gang and tasks Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) to hunt and consequently eradicate the mob. A really interesting tale of cat and mouse played out as a feature film – certainly a good watch, despite the relatively long runtime.
Ron Perlman stars as Asher, an ageing hitman that is slowly coming to the end of his career. Despite struggling through illness, he decides to pair up with a younger prodigy, but when that doesn’t go as well as originally anticipated, Asher and the people he cares for become vulnerable targets themselves. Not the most remarkable of movies but on the other hand, not the worst as far as low budget New York based feature films go.
Joe (Joaquin Phoenix) is a hired gun that is employed to track down missing girls for a living but when a particular job spins out of control, Joe’s own nightmares and traumatic experiences almost tip him over the edge. As he attempts to track down and rescue Nina Votto (Ekaterina Samsonov), a more complex conspiracy begins to unravel before him. A surprisingly creative and thought-provoking movie that is well worth a watch.
When three hardened career criminals find themselves confined inside an abandoned warehouse with law enforcement closing in, they quickly discover that the police aren’t their only threat to freedom – a killer dog is on the loose and hunting down all three crooks. Not the greatest movie to hit Netflix over the years but definitely one where the filmmakers did a good enough job with the limited plot they had to work with.
After a batch of cocaine being smuggled all the way from Colombia to Canada (via the United States) is curiously lost along the way, the head of a drug cartel instructs one of his workers to figure out where and what exactly went wrong in a bid to ensure it never happens again. Cook (Nicolas Cage) is the worker in question and must attempt to find out who is meddling with the batch, especially when people taking the drug suddenly start dying. A fairly short and easy movie to follow that does a great job in keeping the viewers interest from the start.
