The Killer (2023) – Review

In Paris, France, a fateful near-miss in a job undertaken by an assassin known only as The Killer (Michael Fassbender), results in him being targeted by his employers before he himself decides to embark on a mission of revenge. This calm and calculated killer waits in the shadows, waiting his next target, yet the longer he waits, the more he thinks that he is beginning to lose his own sanity. It’s worth noting that The Killer is currently streaming on Netflix.

Reptile (2023) – Review

Hardened New England detective, Tom Nichols (Benicio Del Toro), begins to work a murder case in a quiet American town. Their victim is Summer Elswick (Matilda Lutz), with her boyfriend Will Grady (Justin Timberlake) and her former husband being two of the primary suspects. As the detective digs deeper, however, things become far more complex than he’d ever imagined. A slow detective-based drama that is certainly worthy of watch. Reptile is currently streaming on Netflix.

Zero Dark Thirty (2012) – Review

Not long after the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York, United States, the CIA assign rookie agent Maya (Jessica Chastain) to Pakistan in a bid to seek out the man responsible for the attacks, Osama bin Laden. For the years that follow, obsession ensues, before finally his whereabouts are thought to be known and the next objective for the American’s is to assassinate the threat. A well-made movie that is polarising to some, but well received by others. Zero Dark Thirty is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Rendition (2007) – Review

A terrorist bombing in Northern Africa consequently kills 19 people, including a single American, this leads to an Egyptian chemical engineer named Anwar El-Ibrahimi (Omar Metwally) being arrested and detained upon arriving back to the United States after a work trip to South Africa. Upon his arrest, his wife begins working to try and uncover what has truly happened to her husband, and why. A release that dates back to 2007 but still provides some form of entertainment value. Rendition is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Bordertown (2006) – Review

Loosely based on a series of true, unsolved murders in Juarez, Mexico, Lauren Adrian (Jennifer Lopez), an impassioned American reporter for the Chicago Sentinel, is tasked with visiting Juarez to investigate the sequence of killings, primarily involving young industrial factory women. As she begins to unravel the story, she also begins to gain the trust of the locals but quickly finds herself falling into danger. A true story that covers the tragic reality of how some women in countries such as Mexico endure. It’s worth noting that Bordertown is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Under Suspicion (2000) – Review

In the wake of hurricane Lucy, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Henry Hearst (Gene Hackman) is a highly successful lawyer that is asked to come to the local police station to clear up some information surrounding his witness report of a murder that occurred recently. A short chat turns into a long and troubling interrogation with personal details spilled out into the open. A release dating back over twenty years, this may be too old for some, but a solid murder mystery to this day. Under Suspicion is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
