Air (2023) – Review

The year is 1984 and the Oregon based company, Nike, are on the verge of closing their basketball division for good, due to the low number of sales and failure in the market, compared to Converse and Adidas. In response, a cluster of Nike employees conjure up a plan to find a new spokesperson for their shoe brand – Michael Jordan, one of the entries into the 1984 NBA draft and overall, third pick. Air is a fantastically written and produced drama that has recently been released on Amazon Prime Video.

High Noon (1952) – Review

Gary Cooper stars as Marshal Will Kane, a town Marshal that despite some disagreement and unrest caused with his newlywed wife, Amy Fowler Kane (Grace Kelly), must square up against a gang of deadly killers that are returning to the town that they are infamous in, led by their leader, who has been released from jail and is scheduled to arrive back on the noon train. An all-time western picture that is regarded as one of the most impressive of its time.

Call Me Chihiro (2023) – Review

Chihiro (Kasumi Arimura) is a former sex worker, turned bento shopworker in a small town in Japan. She’s free-spirited and tends to avoid playing by the normal rules of life. Along the way, the film follows her journey as she tries forming friendships with people that others wouldn’t, including that of a young boy that lacks the attention of his mother, a young girl that feels trapped by her family and a homeless man that’s often mocked by others. It’s worth noting that Call Me Chihiro is currently streaming on Netflix.

The Breakfast Club (1985) – Review

A small group of five stereotypical American high-school students in the 1980’s have to sacrifice their Saturday morning to attend detention. For nine long hours, the five teenagers and their unique personalities must co-exist and do their best to get through the adventure they find themselves locked into, consequently finding out that they have a lot more in common than they had originally thought. A classic comedic drama that will always be relatable to most viewers. The Breakfast Club is now streaming on Netflix.

The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) – Review

In Nazi occupied Netherlands, a young girl known as Anne Frank (Millie Perkins), must hide in the attic of a condiment factory with her parents, sister, and another small family, along with an old dentist, who all must live in fear that they are not heard or seen for the duration of their stay. The tale chronicles the Nazi threat they had to live with as well and family dynamics that ensued. An at times frightening, overwhelming and touching movie that is more than worth a watch.

Run All Night (2015) – Review

After reluctantly killing the son of his best friend in New York City, former mobster, and hitman Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson) has one night to figure out where his loyalties lie – with his estranged son, Mike Conlon (Joel Kinnaman) or his lifelong friend and fellow mobster, Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris). An engaging thriller with plenty of action injected to keep the majority of viewers engaged. It’s worth noting that Run All Night is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
