Dune 1 (2021) – Review

In the far future of humanity, year 10191 to be exact, Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac) accepts stewardship of a nearby dangerous desert planet named Arrakis. Arrakis sources one of the most valuable substances in the universe, “spice”, a drug that extends human life and provides improved levels of thought. The Duke’s family quickly become embroiled in a war for control over this substance, while the heir, Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), becomes troubled by visions of a dark future. A visually beautiful flick that has received high praise since its release.

The Little Things (2021) – Review

Joe Deacon (Denzel Washington) is a Kern County Deputy Sheriff that has been ordered down to Los Angeles, California, for what should be a quick evidence gathering exercise. Unfortunately for him, he quickly becomes embroiled in the search of a serial killer with Jim Baxter (Rami Malek), the detective in charge of the entire operation that proves to have multiple layers. An effective and potent crime thriller with numerous twists and turns. It’s worth noting that The Little Things is currently streaming on Netflix.

The Killer (2023) – Review

In Paris, France, a fateful near-miss in a job undertaken by an assassin known only as The Killer (Michael Fassbender), results in him being targeted by his employers before he himself decides to embark on a mission of revenge. This calm and calculated killer waits in the shadows, waiting his next target, yet the longer he waits, the more he thinks that he is beginning to lose his own sanity. It’s worth noting that The Killer is currently streaming on Netflix.

Event Horizon (1997) – Review

In the year 2047, a small group of astronauts spearheaded by Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne), are sent to investigate and salvage the spacecraft “Event Horizon”, a ship that disappeared without trace mysteriously seven years prior. The “Lewis and Clark” rescue ship begins the mission to discover the truth behind the disappearance, only to discover something far more terrifying in the process. A well made Sci-Fi that effortlessly blends various genres.

Reptile (2023) – Review

Hardened New England detective, Tom Nichols (Benicio Del Toro), begins to work a murder case in a quiet American town. Their victim is Summer Elswick (Matilda Lutz), with her boyfriend Will Grady (Justin Timberlake) and her former husband being two of the primary suspects. As the detective digs deeper, however, things become far more complex than he’d ever imagined. A slow detective-based drama that is certainly worthy of watch. Reptile is currently streaming on Netflix.

Halloween (1978) – Review

Fifteen years after brutally slaying his own sister on the night of Halloween in 1963, Michael Myers (Nick Castle) manages to escape from the mental institute that he was being held in, before returning to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, to murder once again. An all-time great horror flick and one that featured the birth of an iconic soundtrack that is still commonly known to this day. Halloween is currently streaming on Netflix.
