The Martian (2015) – Review

After an astronaut is caught up in a fierce storm during a mission to Mars, the rest of his team assume him to be dead and consequently leave the planet. From there, Mark Watney (Matt Damon), must do his best to find a way of communicating to Earth, to start the ball rolling on a daring rescue operation that quickly turned into a race against time. Another solid Ridley Scott movie that is currently streaming on Netflix.

Logan Lucky (2017) – Review

Two brothers, Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) and Clyde Logan (Adam Driver), plot to pull off an audacious heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina, after Jimmy loses his job and decides this is the only way forward. Upon convincing their sister, Mellie (Riley Keough), to help them on their quest, they must then attempt to break out an infamous safe cracker who is currently imprisoned for a previous heist, before returning him afterwards without anyone realising. An easy to watch movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously and showcases a different side to many of the actors involved.

Hereditary (2018) – Review

Annie (Toni Collette) is a model maker with an extremely volatile and unstable family history – when her elderly mother passes away, Annie and the rest of her family begin experiencing disturbing events that tie in with the emotional trauma that has been passed through the generations of their household. A somewhat interesting premise, and genuinely scary movie at times, with a sinister, supernatural theme throughout. Hereditary is now streaming on Netflix.

Gold (2016) – Review

Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey) is a prospector, greatly in need of a lucky break, who decides to team up with an eager geologist in a final bid to discover gold in the dangerous jungle of Indonesia. With Kenny raising the funds, primarily from the America, and Michael Acosta (Edgar Ramirez) doing the mining, what could possibly go wrong? A relatively interesting and enthralling drama with one or two twists along the way that are good enough to keep you hooked.

The Last Days of American Crime (2020) – Review

Sometime in the near future, the American government plan to send out a signal that will make it virtually impossible for any citizen to commit an unlawful crime – consequently, a small team form and plan to execute one final heist before the signal takes effect. On a whole, a movie with a pretty interesting and unique premise, but not one that materialised into anything worthy of a repeat viewing or recommendation.
