After three long years, Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns home a veteran of the American Civil War, only to embark on a multiple year quest of revenge and retribution in hopes of finding his abducted nine-year old niece. Who’s responsible? Chief Scar (Henry Brandon) and his fellow Comanche, who have been seeking their own revenge for the murder of their people. A superb throwback to 1956 with this classic western movie, with one or two comedic moments thrown into the mix too.
This is based on the story of George Jung (Johnny Depp), a man that quickly builds a reputation within the drug trade world to rise up and work alongside the Mexican cartel, to establish a thriving cocaine market in the United States. George must do his best to evade the authorities, thus avoiding jail time, along with providing for his family and proving his worth without disappointing anyone around him. A superb movie that is currently streaming on Netflix and one that soon celebrates its twentieth year since being released in 2001.
After moving from Odessa (Ukraine) to New York (United States), Yuri Orlov (Nicolas Cage) decides to become an illegal international arms dealer, alongside his younger brother Vitaly (Jared Leto). Supplying an ungodly amount of weaponry to disturbed and deprived areas of the world, Yuri quickly becomes a multi-millionaire before marrying and seemingly creating the perfect life, all while being hunted down by a large group of federal agents, spearheaded by Jack Valentine (Ethan Hawke). Based on real events, Lord of War manages to give the viewer a brilliantly realistic view of what goes on behind closed doors when it comes to arms dealing.
A young couple, Martha (Vanessa Kirby) and Sean (Shia LaBeouf), opt for a home birth, but quickly find themselves in an incomprehensibly tragic situation when their new-born baby suddenly dies. After this, the pair begin to delve into a deep state of mourning and depression, which lasts over the coming months, thus not only testing their own relationship, but their relationship with friends and family around them too. A deeply upsetting and shockingly raw film that has just been released on Netflix.
Augustine Lofthouse (George Clooney) is a lonely scientist, tormented by elements of his past, living at the Barbeau Observatory in the Artic Circle. He must do his best to prevent a group of astronauts, headed by Sully (Felicity Jones) from returning home to Earth, after a mysterious global calamity alters the course of civilisation as we know it. A visually impressive movie that had been released to Netflix this past Christmas weekend.
Starting in the 1980’s, a young man is seen meeting and consequently killing a teenager before taking the identity of his victim – the FBI are sworn in by the French Canadian police in an attempt to catch this eventual serial killer, who continues to cause havoc in the region. Illeana Scott (Angelina Jolie) must do her best to track down and stop the killer while also faced with emotional challenges too. This murder mystery film has recently appeared on Netflix and is certainly worth the watch.
