The House (2017) – Review

When a town scholarship program no longer has funding, parents Scott (Will Ferrell) and Kate (Amy Poehler) are left without the necessary cash available to send their daughter to University. Facing very few options, they decide to open and begin running an illegal casino in an attempt to make the cash before the summer ends. An entertaining Netflix time killer that never had a dull moment, with some extremely brutal moments thrown in that made you want to look away on more than one occasion.

1917 (2019) – Review

The heroic tale of two young British soldiers who are sent to deliver an urgent message through enemy territory to an isolated regiment that are readying themselves for battle, completely unaware of the trap that has been set before them by the enemy combatants. Thousands of men face imminent execution in this race against time survival tale – an intense and equally as gripping cinematic experience from start to finish that will leave you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Uncut Gems (2019) – Review

A movie centered around Howie Ratner (Adam Sandler), a fascinating New York City jeweler, who’s struggling to cope with a crippling gambling addiction as well as the breakup of his family. Howie, however, seems to have hit the jackpot after sourcing a rare uncut rock of Ethiopian gems, but he continues to push his luck and ultimately pays the price for actions. A marmite movie for some, that perhaps got a little too much hype for its own good before being officially released to audiences. Uncut Gems is currently streaming on Netflix.

After the horrific events of September 11th, 2001, the United States determine that the Taliban in Afghanistan were responsible for the attack on their citizens and assets so act swiftly to respond. Consequently, a special forces team made up of 12 men, headed by Captain Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth), is tasked with assisting the Northern Alliance in their fight against the enemy by providing foot support along with coordinating air support. It’s worth noting that this review was based solely on the movie I watched at the time and not the true story it was based off.

Broken City (2013) – Review

After being caught up in the shooting of a young and seemingly innocent man, Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg), is a cop that consequently loses his job, forcing him into eventually working for Mayor Hostetler (Russell Crowe) in a job that from the outside seemed simple enough, but this proved to be just a minor piece of a much larger and more complex puzzle in this politically charged drama.

Chips (2017) – Review

A high-tempo’d comedy centering around a rookie highway patrol officer, Jon Baker (Dax Shepard), who is teamed with a hard-edged pro, Frank Poncherello aka Ponch (Michael Pena), despite not knowing that his new partner is actually an undercover FBI agent that is involved in the heist of a large amount of corrupt cops. A really entertaining and genuinely funny at times movie that is worth the one-hundred and one minute runtime. It’s worth noting that this review was based solely on the movie I watched at the time and not the TV series that this is known for.
