The Invisible Man (2020) – Review

After Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss) manages to escape from the clutches of her former partner, he then surprisingly takes his own life and leaves her some of his fortune, only for things to become a little complicated in the process. Cecilia is then tasked with the mission of trying to explain the strange occurrences that have began in a bid to prove that she is being haunted by somebody she cannot see and not losing her mind. A fairly easy watch movie that excels in the first half before faltering somewhat in the latter stages.

The Visit (2015) – Review

When two children first meet and consequently spend an entire week at their grandparents’ house, things begin to become complicated as the youngsters start unearthing worrying signs and dark secrets about their relatives. Becca (Olivia DeJonge) is the older of the two children and with help from her brother, Tyler (Ed Oxenbould), she decides to use this trip as an opportunity to film a documentary, but the budding filmmaker bit off slightly more than she could chew. An unexpectedly scary and extremely dark movie that does no shame on the horror genre at all despite many of the critics it’s received.

Prince Avalanche (2013) – Review

After a devastating forest fire swept through parts of Texas back in the late 1980’s, two men are hired to repair the scorched and partially destroyed roads. However, as the two begin their work, tensions quickly rise and they begin taking their respective frustrations out on each other. A promising premise with two fine actors taking center stage, but sadly the execution didn’t quite feel right. Watchable at times, but certainly not worthy of a repeat viewing.

When Nancy (Lake Bell) – a thirty-something year old woman exhausted by the endless amount of unsuccessful dates that have been thrown her way – decides to finally take things into her own hands, she ends up taking the place of a stranger’s scheduled blind date and ultimately meets a man that ends up changing her outlook on the dating world. A British-based, feel good flick, that isn’t the worst option if you’re hoping to kill some time on a lazy afternoon.

Extraction 1 (2020) – Review

When a fearless mercenary called Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) and the crew supporting him decide to embark on one of the deadliest extraction operations of their careers, they quickly find out that there is much more to the mission than just rescuing the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international kingpin. When things start to get complicated, bodies start falling and moral decisions must be made. A really well-made action movie from Netflix with an incredible high tempo throughout.

The Salvation (2014) – Review

Set in America during the late 1870’s, Jon Jensen (Mads Mikkelsen) finds himself intent on extracting revenge on the men responsible for the barbaric murder of his wife and young son. Fuelled with vengeance and very little help from authority and people around him, he begins realising that the killers are involved with a gang that rule the town, headed by Henry Delarue (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). A really good and relatively realistic western worthy of the ninety-two minute runtime.
