Gold (2016) – Review

Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey) is a prospector, greatly in need of a lucky break, who decides to team up with an eager geologist in a final bid to discover gold in the dangerous jungle of Indonesia. With Kenny raising the funds, primarily from the America, and Michael Acosta (Edgar Ramirez) doing the mining, what could possibly go wrong? A relatively interesting and enthralling drama with one or two twists along the way that are good enough to keep you hooked.

The Last Days of American Crime (2020) – Review

Sometime in the near future, the American government plan to send out a signal that will make it virtually impossible for any citizen to commit an unlawful crime – consequently, a small team form and plan to execute one final heist before the signal takes effect. On a whole, a movie with a pretty interesting and unique premise, but not one that materialised into anything worthy of a repeat viewing or recommendation.

The Sisters Brothers (2018) – Review

Based in the 1850’s, an infamous pair of assassins attempt to chase a gold prospector and his unexpected ally down to finish the job they had signed up for. Things become more complicated however, when the prospector alerts the men to the fact that he holds a chemical substance that is capable of finding gold with ease. An all-star cast deliver a fine performance but a tale that some may not find all that entertaining.

Hold the Dark (2018) – Review

After several children from different families are suspected to have been killed by wolves that roam the area, writer Russell Core (Jeffrey Wright) is hired by the parent of one of the missing children – a six-year-old boy. Russell is tasked with the mission of tracking down her missing son and also to locate the animal responsible, all while navigating the dangerous Alaskan wilderness. An interesting Netflix movie that had the potential to be far better than what eventually transpired.

With Earth being riddled with disasters, famines and long droughts, a team of explorers attempt to travel through a wormhole located in the far reaches of our solar system, in a bid to ensure humanity’s long-term survival and locate a planet that may potentially have the right environment to sustain human life going forward. A truly spectacular movie that was appreciated at the time of its release by millions but importantly has replay value to this day.

Tomb Raider (2018) – Review

When Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West) suddenly vanishes, Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander), the daughter of the British explorer, becomes determined to unearth the truth behind the adventurer’s strange disappearance. Pushing herself beyond her limits and armed with clues, she manages to discover the island her father was last seen on and does all she can to find answers from those responsible. It’s worth noting that this review was based solely on the movie I watched at the time and not the video games or previous films that have been made.
