Thunderbird (2019) – Review

Set against the beautiful backdrop of the America’s Pacific Northwest, Thunderbird is a haunting tale that follows Will Brook (Colten Wilke), a man struggling to cope with the fact that his sister has gone missing. Upon leaving the fishing boat he calls home, Will heads into the local town, determined to find her, but walks into various problems along the way. Detective Ivy Seymour (Natalie Brown) is also in the area, working on a homicide case after the number of missing women in the town begins growing at an alarming rate. Directed by Nicholas Treeshin, Thunderbird is a surprisingly good low-budget thriller that will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from June 4th, 2021.

Apocalypto (2006) – Review

Set around the time of Mayan civilisation, a young man’s journey is followed after his peaceful tribe is forcefully attacked by strangers, who were seeking slaves and a large amount of people for human sacrifice. Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood) hides his wife and young son in a deep cave nearby, before being captured himself. He must then fight to survive and return to save his family. A massively successful Mel Gibson picture that centers around a subject that many filmmakers would try to avoid.

The Lighthouse (2019) – Review

Two lighthouse keepers attempt to maintain their sanity while living on a remote, secluded and mysterious New England island in the 1890’s. For four weeks, the men will only have themselves for company, will they crack under the pressure of isolation and allow their tension and hatred towards each other to boil over? Definitely one of the finest cinema releases of 2019 and one that is definitely worth a watch.

Stowaway (2021) – Review

The highly trained crew of a spacecraft headed to Mars on a dangerous two-year mission, quickly learn that an accidental stowaway is also onboard with them, twelve-hours after takeoff. The crew are too far away from Earth to return to base, and with their own resources diminishing by the day, questions begin to arise regarding how each of the four people will finish the mission safely. Not quite as good as I had hoped and certainly not on the level of similar releases in the same genre, but watchable on the whole.
