All Good Things (2010) – Review

David Marks (Ryan Gosling) is a privileged, yet troubled young man, stemming from an extremely wealthy background, who is suspected of murdering his own wife, Katie Marks (Kirsten Dunst). This tragic love story, turned murder mystery, is based on one of New York’s most notorious unsolved murder cases. An at times gripping film that was originally released in 2010, and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Apocalypto (2006) – Review

Set around the time of Mayan civilisation, a young man’s journey is followed after his peaceful tribe is forcefully attacked by strangers, who were seeking slaves and a large amount of people for human sacrifice. Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood) hides his wife and young son in a deep cave nearby, before being captured himself. He must then fight to survive and return to save his family. A massively successful Mel Gibson picture that centers around a subject that many filmmakers would try to avoid.

The Lighthouse (2019) – Review

Two lighthouse keepers attempt to maintain their sanity while living on a remote, secluded and mysterious New England island in the 1890’s. For four weeks, the men will only have themselves for company, will they crack under the pressure of isolation and allow their tension and hatred towards each other to boil over? Definitely one of the finest cinema releases of 2019 and one that is definitely worth a watch.

The Hunt (2012) – Review

Lucas (Mads Mikkelsen) is a hard-working teacher that lives a relatively lonely and peaceful life, while also battling for the custody of his teenage son. Things, however, take a dramatic turn, when one of the children he tutors decides to tell a small lie that consequently begins spreading around the close-knit Danish town where they reside. The Hunt, also known as Jagten, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video and boasts an 8.3 rating on IMDb.

Greenland (2020) – Review

When a planet-killing comet is scheduled the hit Earth, John Garrity (Gerard Butler), must do everything in his power to ensure his estranged wife, Allison (Morena Baccarin), and young son, Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd), survive the potentially deadly event. Amid this terrifying news, panic and anarchy ensues around them, making their quest for survival that little bit more difficult. A relatively promising Sci-Fi released in 2020, that didn’t quite reach the heights expected upon it. It’s worth noting that Greenland is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

News of the World (2020) – Review

After a young girl is taken by the Kiowa people many years ago, Captain Kidd (Tom Hanks), a war veteran that now drifts from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, is tasked with returning her to distant biological relatives that are based over two-hundred miles away. The pair then enlist on the treacherous journey, filled with grave dangers, while also searching for a place that either can call home. News of the World was released originally in December 2020, but this past weekend hit our Netflix screens.
