Game Night (2018) – Review

Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams) regularly host game nights, much to the enjoyment of themselves and their loyal group of friends, but when Max’s brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler), guest hosts one evening, things become a little more complicated and the group find themselves caught up in a real-life mystery after Brooks is kidnapped. A well-received comedy flick released in 2018 and now finding itself streaming on Netflix.

Greenland (2020) – Review

When a planet-killing comet is scheduled the hit Earth, John Garrity (Gerard Butler), must do everything in his power to ensure his estranged wife, Allison (Morena Baccarin), and young son, Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd), survive the potentially deadly event. Amid this terrifying news, panic and anarchy ensues around them, making their quest for survival that little bit more difficult. A relatively promising Sci-Fi released in 2020, that didn’t quite reach the heights expected upon it. It’s worth noting that Greenland is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

News of the World (2020) – Review

After a young girl is taken by the Kiowa people many years ago, Captain Kidd (Tom Hanks), a war veteran that now drifts from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, is tasked with returning her to distant biological relatives that are based over two-hundred miles away. The pair then enlist on the treacherous journey, filled with grave dangers, while also searching for a place that either can call home. News of the World was released originally in December 2020, but this past weekend hit our Netflix screens.

Loveless (2017) – Review

A couple going through the early stages of divorce, but still living together in the same accommodation in Moscow, must team up together and put their hatred for each other aside, when their only son disappears suddenly after overhearing and witnessing their deteriorating relationship over time. Are the pair too late to find him or is this much more than just a case of a runaway child? This Russian drama may not be the most exciting release of 2017 but it’s worth of a watch.

The Searchers (1956) – Review

After three long years, Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns home a veteran of the American Civil War, only to embark on a multiple year quest of revenge and retribution in hopes of finding his abducted nine-year old niece. Who’s responsible? Chief Scar (Henry Brandon) and his fellow Comanche, who have been seeking their own revenge for the murder of their people. A superb throwback to 1956 with this classic western movie, with one or two comedic moments thrown into the mix too.

Blow (2001) – Review

This is based on the story of George Jung (Johnny Depp), a man that quickly builds a reputation within the drug trade world to rise up and work alongside the Mexican cartel, to establish a thriving cocaine market in the United States. George must do his best to evade the authorities, thus avoiding jail time, along with providing for his family and proving his worth without disappointing anyone around him. A superb movie that is currently streaming on Netflix and one that soon celebrates its twentieth year since being released in 2001.
